Pork chops when it's raining!








   I built sand castles in the air, and watch them crumble. I suppose I made everything seem like rainbows and unicorns, in hope that my reality would mimic the things I wrote. I have hope though.
  Well, moments like these are not called 'new beginnings,'  for nothing. I pick my bags up, wipe my tears away and move on with a smile on my face. I am a positive person, I believe that everything happens for a reason and the reason is always good. I suppose we all tend to plan a lot; we plan our next meal, we make our grocery lists, we plan our day, our month, our life, our afterlife even. I forgot the famous Yiddish proverb in the process of planning, "Man plans, God laughs."
   I am lucky to have family and friends who support me when things seem to be sinking. I love how they shower me with happiness and promise that everything is going to be alright. I forgot to cook for a while. But I snapped out of that phase. Life does not end here. It will only get better. I had a choice, to give it all up or to live life to the fullest. Lets just say, I chose to make pork chops instead.
   I went to my cousins, Rajeev Etta and Aparna Chechi's place the other day and Rajeev Etta had made the most amazing pork chops ever! I decided to post my recipe of pork chops and dedicate it to all the yummy times in my life. The times when I smiled, laughed, and stuffed my face. Hope you like it! It's sweet, tender, spicy, and juicy! Enjoy!



Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup of apple juice,
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar,
  • 1/4 cup of whiskey,
  • handful of  garlic cloves,
  • a few leaves of fresh basil,
  • 2-4 tablespoons of chili flakes,
  • 4-6 tablespoons of tobasco,
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds,
  • 1/2 cup of honey,
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce,
  • 6 pieces of pork chops

Directions:
  • Mix the  apple juice, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup honey, whiskey, garlic, chopped basil, chili flakes, and salt together to create the marinade.









  •  Lay the pork in a tray and pour the marinade over the chops. I usually poke the meat with a fork so that the marinade is soaked up inside.

  • Make a sealing sauce by mixing the rest of the sugar, honey and adding the sesame seeds. Pour this mixture over each piece. 
  • Marinate for at least an hour.
  • Grill the meat on a hot griddle. 7 and a half minutes to ten minutes on each side. 
  • In another pot, pour in the watery marinade that is left in the tray in which the pork was marinating. Add soy sauce, a little bit of honey, and salt to taste. Let the sauce thicken.

  • Once the pork chops are done, pour the sauce over the pieces.
  • Done!
